Why I Hate the Term Cougar

No surprise that Cougar Town's creator, Bill Lawrence, wants the name changed.  He thinks it will expand the show's audience; so do I.  Why is a perfectly natural experience such as having a relationship with a younger man, considered edgy, as if  a woman over 40 or 50 was preying on an unsuspecting  piece of meat younger guy?  For centuries in Europe it was considered perfectly acceptable for younger men to have relationships with older women, then our prudish but prurient society decided it was off base.  True, Demi Moore and others have made it popular again.  But, let's give women the credit they are due.  Love and bed whom you want at any age and any stage. It's a woman's sensual, sexy birth right, as it is a man's.

Most slang sits OK with me, It's the societal implication and the judgments of a sexy dame doing what comes naturally that troubles me

Glad you agree. I'm pretty cool with slang language. But this one is so demeaning.

I'm so in agreement with the poor use of the term Cougar. I hate that term. My husband is 13 years younger than me and I certainly wasn't the one pursuing the relationship however, we've been together over 20 years now and our 18 year old will be off to college in August. Who ever came up with such a ridiculous term???? LOL!
